Oil Boiler Service & Maintenance
Heating with oil is normally trouble-free, inexpensive and convenient. However, oil boilers are machines and do require annual maintenance to remain operational and efficient. Martin Heating & Cooling can help.
Why Annual Oil Burner Maintenance Is Important
Without a yearly burner cleaning and inspection by Martin Heating & Cooling or another trusted HVAC professional, an oil boiler will fall into disrepair and could suddenly stop working, of course, this usually happens on a cold winter night when your family needs it most. In addition, clogs or leaks in the boiler exhaust system that build over time could eventually vent toxic carbon monoxide into your home. For this reason, any home with oil heat should have a carbon monoxide detector installed in addition to smoke detectors.
Why Call Martin Heating & Cooling For Oil Burner Service?
Martin Heating & Cooling knows oil burners, and we know how to keep them running safely. Oil burning boilers operate by mixing fuel with air and igniting it on a combustion chamber. Water is pumped around the exterior of the hot chamber and into pipes that supply hot water to your baseboards or radiators. Services provided by Martin Heating & Cooling are comprehensive.
Annual oil boiler service by Martin Heating & Cooling generally consists of the following:
Changing the oil filter – Oil naturally contains impurities that settle and clump over time which sooner or later would clog the fuel intake on your oil burner. An oil filter removes this sludge. However after about a year, the filter needs to be replaced to continue allowing the fuel oil to flow freely.
Cleaning the pump filter – Should any large contaminates make it past the oil filter, the oil is filtered one more time just before it is pumped into the combustion chamber. This pump filter should be inspected and cleaned as needed.
Cleaning the combustion chamber – Fire makes soot. Over time soot builds up in your oil boiler's combustion chamber. Over time this soot will corrode the chamber walls and decrease your boiler's efficiency. As part of an oil boiler annual service Martin Heating & Cooling brushes the soot from chamber walls and vacuums it with an industrial shop vac.
Inspecting and cleaning the flue pipe – Over time soot also builds up on flue pipe walls, restricting exhaust flow and corroding the metal. Without cleaning, soot will combine with moisture to create acids that create holes in your flue pipe allowing exhaust gases, including carbon monoxide, to vent into your home. Proper flue pipe inspection by Martin Heating & Cooling checks for leaks in your flue pipe to keep your family safe.
